Piano Sonata No. 5 in C# minor

Second movement, as promised! I like it better than the first!

Enjoy.

I like this one better as well. Your theme in this one has a nice rhythm and tempo, which is always fun to run with. I like the brief syncopated parts where the octaves are displaced.

Thanks for listening! I think the third movement will have to be significantly slow and on the lighter side... still wondering how I'll get back to the C# minor in the fourth movement. Maybe an A major third movement?

Jeff,

I'd really vote that the next movement be slow and dark unless your last movement is going to be dark. Even though the key scheme may be minor in this movement, it's actually bright. Split octaves like you're using just screams Rondo Alla Turk (even if it's in minor!) And it is really bright and uplifting.

Maybe something like this: (and the reasons are that it really dwells in the bass, is slow, powerful, and dramatic...)

Just a suggestion :)

Anyway, this movement...I definitely think is one of your more mature movements in your piano sonata writing.

Jeez, Devin... you're really putting the pressure on me to write something as good as this huh?

I'll try - it probably won't be as Chopin-/Debussy-esque. That's what I found this to be a peculiar mix of!

Really, I definitely hear Brahms rather than Chopin...the Brahms ballades to be more specific.
