Could you tell me what Quipto means? I think knowing what you're after would help me understand better. I really don't want to critique how you use notes for the sake of using notes. I assume there is a meaning behind this name and how the music corresponds to those notes. But if Quipto means nothing and the music is unrelated to the title, then all I can give you is.... nothing struck me as immature or inadequate. It would appear you knew what you wanted and you were satisified with the results. Just the fact that you presented it here tells me you're proud of what you accomplished writing for a full band.
This is how I deal with review. As I said in my first review I liked what I heard at face/ear value. Your use of rhythm, which I didn't state and I should have, is really nice! I know you're a percussionist and you utilized your knowledge of percussion well. I wouldn't suggest anything. It's not my work! Oh sure, I could......But if I did, then I'm making a portion of your work, my work.... In that regard my ego is very small....
Tell me....What do you truly feel about the piece you've just written? Forget about what any of us think.....What do you think??? I feel you're secure with it! If you want suggestions, in what areas of the piece would you suggest they go?
Geez...I hope no controversy stems from this!!!...................lol | | Back to Top | | Devin Chaloux Registered Member

As a concert band piece, it is a little top heavy. I think if you were ever to have it performed, it would come across in the performance. But then again, I tend to write too bottom heavy myself. The Horn in F seems to be a tad high most of the time (I'm guessing from the MIDI sound.)
You handled the percussion very well (for obvious reasons...) Definitely a very high point (and something I'm definitely not good with myself.) If you think the I-IV-V7-I sounds too forced, then don't write it. I think you honestly can keep that opening progression as a closer. It didn't sound forced to me, but this is YOUR composition.
Still some really cool ideas and progressions that are definitely unique to you...and it still is a fun piece to listen to! Congrats!
Hope this helps!

I really didn't hear much bass at all, so I'm wondering if there actually were instruments like Bass Clarinet, Tuba, Euphonium, String Bass, Bari Sax...etc. And maybe it's just the range doesn't fit the characteristics of the instruments in such an ensemble (something I have trouble with myself.) | | Back to Top | | Devin Chaloux Registered Member

Finale isn't the best when there are a lot of channels being used. :) | | Back to Top | | | Forum Information | Currently it is Saturday, November 21, 2009 12:48 AM (GMT -6) There are a total of 9,104 posts in 1,006 threads.
